I am considering buying either a Bernina Activa 230 PE or a 240.?

Is there any reason I should choose one over the other besides the added number of stitches in the 240 model? I wasn’t needing the embroidery features and the lady at the quilt shop suggested that the Activa line might be just what I need. Also I will be doing some “quilting” of heavy duty fabric (canvas and denim). Any suggestions for other machines are welcome as well.
Thanks!

They want $60.00 plus $12.00 S+H. Is this a good deal and a decent comforter? I need something that doesnt get super hot and I know nothing about fill powers so Im unsure about buying it. Any help is great, thanks!

I purchased a software and cannot install because the company went out of business …HELP!?

Hi,

I am really hoping someone can help me.
I bought this software that works with my embroidery machine. Is a completely legal copy and I having the serial number and all? However, it is set in a way where you cannot install it more than once and to do so you would need an activation number from the company that developed. Well… they do not exist anymore! And I had to restore my PC to its factory setting and I lost the previous installation.
I used it quite a bit and I am so mad because I cannot install this now. I paid about $150 for this about 3 years ago….
Is there any way I could bypass the activation code?
When you install for the first time you have to put your personal data (name, etc) serial number (which I have), and installation gives you a registration number which I am guessing would have to match the activation code.
Any help would be much appreciated.

Having to restart computer to read media?

I have a compact flash card that I use to transfer files from my computer to my embroidery machine. I always eject the card by right clicking on the green arrow on the bottom right hand corner of my computer and selecting the card (safely removing hardware). Well if I have to go back to my computer to transfer more files and I put my compact flash card back into the computer it will not read it..like if its not even there. I have to restart my computer then put in the card in order for the computer to detect the card again. Is this normal? I went to best buy looking for an external card reader so I won’t have to restart my computer and the rep told me that its not normal for me to have to restart my computer in order for the computer to read the card again after ejecting. There is a little green light on the computer that comes on when I put the card in and it goes off after I eject.
There is nothing on My Computer detecting the card. Any idea on how to fix myself?

Is this a good idea for cute quarter sheets?

Well I’m a very creative person and I also just started half leasing a pony (which I’m very happy about) and I was going to buy a quarter sheet but when I was looking, it came across me, they’re all really boring. So then I looked up polar fleece and I found this site with all fleece and cute designs and so then it kind of started adding up, need of a new quarter sheet + cute fleece fabric= me making cute quarter blankets. I’m not sure if I’am doing this but I want to know if you WOULD buy one, like if it’s a good idea or not. I’m 13 and I would do it myself and I’m going to see how I like it by doing mine and my friend has an embroidery machine I could MAYBE use but is it a good idea? Do you think it would catch on fast? thankss it’ll really help (and if i do make them I can make one for you too) lol

Husqvarna Viking #1+?

Hi All –

I have recently gotten the Husqvarna Viking #1+ embroidery machine from my sister. She bought it years ago and hasn’t used it so she gave it to me. I am trying to use it and have downloaded a design on the card but it won’t seem to run my design. I am looking for a user guide for this machine but can’t seem to find one anywhere – and my sister doesn’t know where hers is at – does anyone know where I can get one? Or find information on why it will not work? Any help is appreciated.

Looking for a sewing machine & in need of advice/help?

Hi,
I recently started sewing clothing (about a year ago) using one of my mom’s old sewing machines. I would continue using it but it seems like something is always going wrong. Plus, the instruction book was lost many years ago so figuring out how to fix/use the sewing machine has been VERY difficult.
So, I need to buy a new one but I don’t know much at all about sewing machine brands so I don’t really know where to start.

I’m looking for something that is fairly easy to use, but also high quality.
I make lots of clothes for myself and others, so I want something that is versatile. I need it to be able to sew knits and chiffons and silks and satins and I would like one that I can either buy all the parts (different presser feet, and needles and stuff) either with it, or for it to be easy to find ones that fit/work with the machine.
I don’t need one that has all the different embroidery options – though that would be an added bonus, it’s not something I absolutely need.
Thanks in advance for any help!

Does someone ever ask you to do a project and you say yes and wish you’d kept your mouth shut?

Ahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhrrrrrrrrrrrrrg! I was asked to do some projects to display at the fair for the sewing store where I bought my machine. Now it seems everything works perfectly and turns out beautifully when I am doing something for myself or a gift, but why when under pressure do things go haywire? These are big embroideries and a little mistake can turn to a big mistake in a hurry.
It’s fun to sew when not under stress to have it done.

Husqvarna Viking #21 Cassette – where can I buy one?

My mom is looking for a Viking embroidery cassette #21 for her 1+ machine. I have found one on ebay, but so far that’s the only place. Does anyone have any other ideas where to check? I’ve surfed the internet and haven’t come up with anything…is ebay our ONLY option?

Thanks!

How do I use the Doodle-Stitching Book? (embroidery)?

I see the book on Amazon, Doodle-Stitching by Aimee Ray. If I buy the book, how do I get the patterns onto my fabric so that I can copy them? Do they transfer? Would I need a copy machine? Can I blow up the images to any size?

What would be the essentials for a hand sewing/embroidery kit for a VERY creative 11 year old?

i have an 11 yr old niece living far away that has mentioned *several* times over the past year that she wants to sew and art quilt. although her mother is bright and has other talents, she’s self admittedly truly useless at ANY kind of creative handwork–so no help there. her dad is deployed in the mid-east til april or may and he CAN sew or do almost anything with his hands. however, i want to send her a packet of goodies with some fairly easy projects she can do by hand on her own learning simple embroidery stitches and simple hand sewing techniques that she’ll need even when she gets a machine. when her father returns, i’ll go for a few weeks, buy her a good machine and teach her enough to get going. i am such a tool/toy/material junkie that i don’t have any perspective and am afraid of overwhelming her (and her minimalist mother). what are your suggestions? she is extremely creative and taught herself to loom knit at age 8. are there any good websites she/we can turn to for instruction or easy and well explained projects? i’ve been doing this so long, i don’t even really remember what the basics are.

Which presser foot is the most useful for my serger machine.. cording, elastic, blind hem or shirring foot?

I just bought a serger a month ago and am trying to figure out which presser foot to purchase as an option. All of the presser foots that I listed price between $30-$40 except the cording foot prices at $20. I want to be able to make a seatwall pillow, purses and clothes with gathering and elastic as well. My embroidery machine has a blind hem stitch option. I’ve never made anything with cording so not sure if the cording foot would really make a big difference. I also don’t know how much time the elastic and shirring foot would save. let me know what your experience is and if you think any of these are worth buying.

wanted to buy, either a 3D or 4D embroidery program.?

Where can I get a custom embroidered patch made?

I want a custom embroidered patch, just one, with a certain design on it.
Embroidery machines are a bit out of my budget, so please don’t suggest that I buy one.
Does anyone know where I can go, online, to get a custom quote for a patch?
A legit site that does not require a minimum purchase.

Help choosing a quilter’s sewing machine?

I want to purchase a new sewing machine. I have looked at many different models on the web and read about the various features. I will use the machine primarily for making quilts, both piecing and machine quilting. I would also like to have some extra stitches, such as basting, zigzag, appliqué, and the stitching that resembles hand quilting. Basically I just want quilting stitches, but others are okay to have too. I also need to be able to drop the feed dogs and a darning or walking foot will be needed. I do not need to do embroidery. I also need a machine that runs quietly, because hubby works nights, and I sew during the day while he’s sleeping. I am not stuck on any particular brand and am open to all suggestions. This will be my first purchase of a brand new machine, so please keep the comments to personal knowledge you have had with the machine you recommend. I thought it might be a good time to buy with Mother’s Day coming up, there might be some sales. I would like to spend less than $800, but if the machine you recommend is more than that, its ok too. I would consider a reconditioned or slightly used model.
Thank you all for your wonderful suggestions. There were so many good ideas, it was difficult to choose a best answer. I loved the Bernina, but it was way out of my price range. I like the Pfaff and the Janome MC6600 as well, but again, both were out of my price range. I didn’t want to settle for a used machine because there would be no warranty if it stopped working next week. So I ended up purchasing a Husqvarna Viking Platinum 750 Quilter’s machine. It is exactly the same as the new 755, only the faceplate is a different color. I got it new, with a warranty and a few freebies too, like a stippling foot, extra bobbins, etc. and had money left. I got free classes to use the machine. It has a good trade-in policy (full price during 1st year, then book price thereafter), and the maintenance and repair work is done by the shop owners. Here is a link if anyone is interested in seeing the machine I chose.

Is this legal? (Copyright Question)?

I want to buy an embroidery machine and use it to make baby things to sell. There is a Disney one that includes Disney character images that you can use. They are already downloaded to the machine when you buy it.

My question is, if I use those characters on my items, is it legal to sell it? Or would it go against their copyright?

I would think that by buying the machine that I kind of buy the right to use those images. But I am not sure about this.

Any help is appreciated…thanks in advance!

Who makes professional embroidery equipment?

I am looking for a company to buy a professional embrodery machine. I want something good. Something I could put a name and number on a Jersey and make it look just like the Pro’s wear. Any website info and costs would be appricated. Thanks a ton!

When embroidering, do you change the bobbin color each time you change thread colors of the pattern?

my husband just bought me an embroidery machine. Silly question: Say I’m embroidering a pattern that is 4 colors (red, orange, green and blue) Each time I change the thread on top to do the next color on the pattern, am I supposed to change the bobbin color to match the top color thread as well?

I hope you understand what I am trying to ask! Feel a bit silly! New to all this sewing/embroidering!! :)

How can I keep old embroidery from fraying?

I have some old t-shirts I bought while overseas that have a lot of sentimental value to me, but over time the embroidery on the front has begun to fray and even to come unravelled. It is simple threaded embroidery done by a machine, but I love the shirts and I would love to protect them.

Is there a way I can repair them, or at the very least keep the pattern from unravelling further? There was backing on them at some point, but it has long since washed away. And I always wash these shirts inside-out, and only as needed. But I still need a way to keep the embroidery from absolutely disintegrating, if possible! Please help!

Thanks in advance,
R

Where can I buy 4D Professional Software at Wholesale prices?

This is for a Embroidery Sewing machine (Viking Husqvarna) I don’t care if the Brand is different just as long as it is compatible

Do you have to have a memory card for your embroidery machine to download from computer?

I just got this machine (BrotherPE-700II) was told I could download and how easy it was. I just tried downloading an alphabet font and it tells me” the destination drive is full to insert a new disk to continue”!
I just read in my book my machine only holds 512kb of data!! This pattern is apparently bigger! I looked on the site I bought from and it doesnt tell anything about that! I am confused!!! I just wanted a cute font and now I am stuck!! help!! :)

Embroidery Thread Question. ?

Hello. I bought a sewing/embroidery machine recently. I also purchased several spools of embroidery thread online and as it turns out, they are WAY TOO BIG for my machine.

This machine comes with an attachment for spools that are too big, however, they are even too big for that. = (

My question is, is there a way to get the large spools of thread wound onto a smaller spool that fits into my machine?

Thank you so much for your help!!!!
I don’t know about returning the spools but I can probably re-sell them.

So…you’re saying I can put a bobbin in the top of the machine where a larger spool normally goes? I never knew you could do that.
My bobbin winder is a little odd. It’s a cheap plastic piece that lays down, I have to stand it up and it’s too weak to hold the larger spools. ha ha

But if it’s safe to wind it by hand, I’ll try that. I was afraid if I did a bad wind job it might jam my new machine.

need help to choose the perfect sewing machine?

I want to buy a sewing machine and Berninas are just great but too expensive! I would like a machine that comes with this type of foot pressers: all purpose, buttonhole, zipper, blind hem, and for embroidery. Also triple zigzag and a couple of decorative stitching.Or could a serger do all this?

Where can I buy a blank cartridge?

Where can I buy a blank cartridge/cd for an Embroidery Stitch sewing machine that I can download pics from my computer to it?

can you embroidery toboggans?

I was thinking of buying an embroidery machine.. and was just wondering what all stuff you could do it on.

What are coupon codes on e-bay/paypal and does anyone know any?

I was just curious before I buy my embroidery machine.

I want to start my own embroidered clothing line. How do I start?

I do not have any background in embroidery, but I do have several designs that I would like to put on clothes. I am looking to buy a decent embroidery machine equipped for computer software to program the machine. I am seeking advice on brands, software packages, machine costs and upkeep. Start-up funds can not exceed $2K, which should take care of the machine and software. Any and all insight would be invaluable. Many thanks.

I’m interested in getting an embroidery machine, can you help?

I want it mainly for monagraming and small embroidery. I have a pfaff 2024 already, and it I like it a lot. Are there any machines out there that just do the alphbet and small designs? I don’t want to buy more of a product than I will use. Your experience will help me out!
Thanksa
I live in Germany and haven’t learned the language yet, so I can’t go to stores and ask questions. I’ve learned a lot form the answers I have gotten and they have led me to different places for research. Thanks!!
