I’m new to sewing, and I don’t know what sort of things I should watch for when buying a machine. I also don’t know what kind of price I should expect to pay if I want something that’s good enough to last me a long time, but doesn’t have gadgets I don’t need.

I hope to use it to work with cotton and linen primarily if that helps.

I dont want to invest in something too expensive or complicated but I want it to be good enough to make quality garments.

I just want something simple nothing to fancy (or too expensive). Something that I can use to just mend and make some craft projects I’ve got lined up. Never bought one before so not sure what to look at. I looked at a couple online and they say things like 20 stich and I have no clue what that means. Can anyonehelp me out?

I’m 15, have just finished my Textiles GCSE and am looking to buy a sewing machine. Although it’s my first one, I want to buy a good one because I don’t want to have to replace it in a year or so. What are some brands or features to look out for when looking, and how much should I expect to pay, etc?

I haven’t sewn in 25 years or so. I hope I still can. I am looking for a new machine, one that is not difficult to use at all, or I won’t use irt.. I don’t need it for making clothes, I would use it mostly for hemming pants. and altering items. DOES ANYONE KNOW ONE FOR A SIMPLETON LIKE ME?

So, I searched through the internet and found some shops where to buy, but the main problem is that the shops do not sent them to Latvia. O.K. There is one person in Latvia, that offers me to buy, but in here it costs twice of the price. Can anybody help me to find this sewing machine with delivery to Latvia?

This machine was my Mother’s old sewing machine, she thinks she bought it in 1953, but I think according to the series numbers it is from 1958. There is a round space where the power cord plugs into the side of the machine, looks like an antique type of connection. Everything else is in case, foot pedal, etc.; everything but the power cord we need. Help??

There is a sewing machine on sale today and I am considering buying it. I used to sew my Barbies’s clothes so I’m hoping now in my twenties that I’ll manage to make something for myself!! I am tired of paying small fortunes for simple articles of clothing and hoping I can make skirts and dresses for start. Any opinions? Is it worth it? What else can you tell me?

The cost of the sewing machine is 70 Euro or approx. 95 US Dollars or 48 British Pounds. It has a 3 year warranty. It has different sewing settings and features but as a first I’m happy with it even doing a plain stitch for the price it’s at. As far as I know they can run quite expensive.

My car broke down so by the time I got to the store the sewing machines which were on sale were sold out! And.. the part that broke in my car will cost as much as the sewing machine would have.. I hope to find another one soon. I liked SniffyDogs option of a used sewing machine. Thing is, I live in Greece so buying a used one, let a lone servicing one, would be tricky as we aren’t as well organised here. I’m really inspired to start sewing though and you guys have been great!

I want to use different fabrics and stitches for decoration and I want to be able to embroider with it and do a hem binding like for t shirts and stuff. Do I want a serger or a sewing machine? I heard that singers are crappy now that I should buy viking or beringer? I that true?

Does anyone have any suggestions on what would be a good machine for a beginner? I have read a few books on the subject and they all say a fancy machine is not necessary, just one with a good straight forward and back stitch. I am interested in machine quilting only and live in Australia. Thanks!
I should probably add that I have experience sewing clothes, pillows, costumes, etc, but not quilts.

I was hoping to read reviews of the machine, but the particular model number they’re selling isn’t anywhere online, not even on the manufacturer’s website! I know that companies sometimes manufacture Costco-exclusive items that aren’t sold anywhere else, but I also know that these items are sometimes subpar (not as high quality as their regular products).
For these reasons, should I be hesitant to buy a sewing machine at Costco?

I understand the #16 is for heavy material (such as denim). What is the #100 for and where do I find it on the package of needles? Also..do I have to know a certain kind/type needles that a “Brother Sewing Machine” uses? Does the needle package state which machines it can be used on?

I’m 14 and have had a recent interest in fashion in both genders (based of sexuality). I have also been very intimidated by the fashion world though: so many people our there probably have much more natural talent for it than me and are vying to do the same thing-I have my own creative interest but I’m not anal enough to judge what people want to wear.

Therefore it would be helpful to get a leg up and learn as much as I can at my age, right? I already can fashion sketch and have created several basic outfits and can do basic hand sewing. I also did a term of machine sewing at school so I have a basic knowledge of that. Therefore I was wondering if I should definately buy a sewing machine and mannequin and fabrics now.

But I don’t know. I’d rather buy a keyboard right now and I’m wondering whether I can hold off on buying fashion design related stuff for a while. Not that I wouldn’t enjoy sewing, I just don’t know whether I would advantage myself to buy a machine now. I would rather buy the keyboard but what do you think: buy the machine or wait a year or more?

Anybody ever use a a machine around 100 dollars (I saw some at target and walmart)? I am thinking if they are all about the same I could save a bit and still get the same quality machine. Im just afraid that it will break easily. And will one of those little machines sew through denim?

As for upgrading to a 500 dollar machine, how can I tell if it will sew through denim and leather?

I LOVE to sew, and I’m looking to get a new sewing machine. I want to make draperies, and be able to do the blind stitch, if possible, and also have a variety of other stitches, and not jus tthe straight and zig zag Like Iis all I can currently do. Does anyone know of any GOOD sewing machines that are NOT incredibly expensive. I would like to spend LESS than $500.
