Can I make a down comforter w/ this?

Can I make a down comforter with the sewing machine in the link below? How do I “bunch” up the blanket to sew the squares in the middle of the blanket without displacing the down?

Am I selfish or is my husband not understanding of my needs- should I give up everything for a baby?

I am an artist- so I have a lot of literal baggage, a looms, yarn, doll models, paints… ect..
I have always had my own studio room in my own house and in the house we are in now. I am 31 and I require some alone time- I am one of those wives who loves it when he goes on a weekend trip. Well, we bought a new house and it’s smaller. We are down sizing in preparation for having children- smaller mortgage and I won’t have to work. The new house only has two bedrooms and we discussed putting an addition on to the house in 5 years. We are discussing having a baby in 1 ½. I want the extra room as a studio and since the master bedroom is so huge- we could just have the baby in there until the addition is done. My husband assumed I would just get rid of all my personal belongs and that room would be a baby’s room allowing us to have two children quickly before the addition is put on. His reasoning is that I won’t have time to do my personal art anyways so I should part with everything! I can just buy a new loom when the children are grown. He is saying I am selfish for not giving up my stuff for a baby. I don’t think I should have to give up my whole identity to have a child. Plus I sew and make things for the house, fixing clothing as well as make Gifts so it’s not like my stuff doesn’t save us money or I am not using it. I have already went through everything and down sized. There is no storage in this new house because the basement is dirt- and my sewing machine is computerized ($6,000 machine) and my loom also pricey ($4,000). I had all these things before marriage. Am I wrong for wanting to keep my stuff? I was also hoping to use my craft to pull in extra money when I was staying at home with the kids.

Bernina users. How easy is it to use Bernina?

I’m thinking of replacing my basic sewing machine with a Bernina. I primarily quilt. Yes, I know even a low end is very expensive, so I’m expecting to do it on monthly payments. Given that I have short term memory issues, I’m wondering whether a lower end Bernina requires a steep learning curve? I think all of them are computerized and am also wondering about upkeep (computer board? Etc.?) Thanks! I’m just not sure that I can afford to move to computerized machines and am getting opinions from actual users.

how is clothing manufactured?

do they have actual people hand sewing things? i know we have fancy sewing machines that are computerized and everything, but how can they do it perfectly without at least someone putting the cloth under the machine in the right spot?

i saw how they make some coats on how its made and they had people sewing by hand, but what about just regular clothes?

Sewing Machines — Can a complete idiot learn how to use one?

for years, i’ve been making new, eclectic/funky fashions from vintage clothing. things like altering hems, removing sleeves and collars from one item and attaching them to another, etc. since i have zero skills, i’ve always used pins, ties, irons, glue, tape, staples (lol, seriously), etc.

i have *no clue* how to use a sewing machine for anything other than making a straight line. am i kidding myself here, or is there a decent chance that i could figure out how to do this on my own? how did you learn?

i was thinking of buying this one:

thanks for any advice you can offer.

Recommended sewing machines?

Right now I have a Janome Sew Petite that I use for sewing everything. The bobbin thread gets messed up every 2 – 10 stitches, and I have to stop and fix it, making it impossible to sew with the bobbin plate cover on.

So, i decided that I really need a new machine. I do not need a lot of different stitches, I usually use the straight stitches and the zig zag stitches. I use it mostly for sewing clothes. I was wondering if anyone could recommend a sewing machine for me? I don’t want something computerized or really expensive. I’m planning on spending $100 – $200. I just need something that won’t break down on me and will last me a while. I do not need something super complex.

Thank you in advance.

I dont know the first thing about sewing?

share your good/bad sewing stories please :)?

i just wanted to hear some good or bad stories of your sewing experience. i want to learn to sew, but am not good with reading a book. i have no one that could teach me. there is an expertvillage site that has online videos that teach you how to sew. i want to get into it, but wanted to know how many times of sewing before id actually wear something that id make and also how long before i can sell my clothes. i know im dreaming and rushing it, but i am on disability which alows me to make money while not working. i would like to start this hobby and enjoy it in my free time (which is alot) and get the most practice. whats funny is that i already have a computerized 70 stitch brother sewing machine, table and all the tools i need, but no experience. WOW crazy eh, i hope that i will hear some of your great stories on sewing and maybe even get inspired. thanks for your time :)

which sewing machine brand has the least problems?(Knotting thread biggest frustration)?

I have a Viking I bought used 20 years ago. It is basic and I like that aspect (don’t need the bells and whistles) I have recently gotten a tune up on it because the tension wouldn’t hold. it has always been a problem but just worsened with use. Example, I would have to adjust tension every 5 minutes on a project. It gets too loose or too tight on bottom, and knots up.
My mother gave me a new computerized Brother. After the Viking knotted up once again, I tried the Brother which knotted up almost immediately. I was ready to throw both out the window.
I borrowed my sister in law’s Kenmore, which is also 20 years old, and it ran smoother than my Viking ever ran new. ( I was quilting, and I had to have it done pronto). No knotting, no jamming, no finicky lower tension. Is this typical of Kenmore? And should I look for a Kenmore? I prefer older and used because the super computer machines just require CD’s now for new projects, you don’t use your own simple judgment. IE, more money needed for the basics.
It’s your Mom, I think I mentioned it was a Viking, but I didn’t say it was also Husquevarna. I don’t know if that makes a difference.
Drip, it’s really not complicated and It seems I know how to work other machines’ bobbins, and there are times when it does work right. In fact other machines work fine, and I have noticed (because some machines I have worked with in classes,) there are really only a certain number of bobbin styles anyway. In fact, it is amazing that they keep coming up with the bells and whistles, because they all share certain basic features- they have the top thread and the bottom thread and they all seem pretty darn similar. You really wouldn’t think there would be much to go wrong. In fact, after 100 years of sewing machine manufacturing, you would think they all would have it down pat, on the basics.
It’s like that with other stuff too. You would think if they can get a radio signal from the Moon (back in the Appollo days) they could by now have a cell signal that doesn’t cut out here on earth.
Bobo, I need you to come live in my house and help me with this. Do you have any YouTube videos?

But then how can I work other machines just fine?

Problem with the tension control on my Singer sewing machine?

I was doing gathers all morning, and it worked great. But when I turned it on this afternoon and adjusted the tension to +3 (to continue whats seems to be an endless amount of those damned gathers) the fabric did not gather in the least, it was like the machine wasn’t reading the tension setting. No I didn’t forget to turn up the stitch length, and I already cleaned it. The only information I have on the machine is the company (Singer) and the model number 7430 (oh and its computerized). I’d prefer a straight answer over links I have to dig through. Please and thank you.
I adjusted it because I had to do a regular stich (I was alternating between gathers and regular stitching). I worded my question powerly in that reguard, I adjusted it BACK to +3. Im not exactually sure of what my method is called, but my proceger is to turn the stitch length up (to 4-4.8) and turn the tension up to the maximum (+3). Its strange it started working again, and then just stopped. I realzed this has happened before.

I am looking for a manual for a Singer-144a9786b3383

It is a computerized sewing machine.

what kind of serger is best for my doll clothes/costuming/general sewing needs?

I am thinking about getting a serger. I am pretty mechanical and have limited space (I have a dedicated sewing room, but it’s very small and I have WAY too much fabric stash). I sew a lot of doll clothes with tiny seams, so I think I need a free arm (is that like on a sewing machine?) I also like to sew costumes. I am just getting into that, but the costumes are things like medieval or rennaissance, really elaborate. Plus I also sew regular clothes. I probably sew about 10 hours a week, and I’m selling some of these items. I like all those horrible to handle fabrics like velvet, satin & sheers (besides, costumes usually need those fabrics). I do sew knits, too.

So, what I want is something reliable, and something under $600. What features are must-haves? Any sergers I should stay away from? I’m not real gung-ho on computerized things because I fear they will go obsolete or the circuit board will fail if I don’t use the thing for a few months occasionally. Thanks!

Could somebody help me find this sewing machine?

My Mother has a dream sewing machine. She is a very experienced seamstress; I’ve heard a lot about brother sewing machines, Pffaf, Janome, and others. I am really trying to find the one she’s always wanted for a surprise holiday gift.

These are the features she would like:

Computerized
(The ones you can plug in to your computer and download things in to your sewing machine.)
A Double Threader
Twin Needle
Satin Stitching
Monogramming
And 1 step button holes
Maybe an automatic threader
Or any other advanced perks that may be awesome to have.

If anybody can find one that does all of this I will be forever grateful.
Now, I can’t really spend thousands of dollars or anything – but I am willing to stretch my budget.

What’s a good sewing machine for a non-beginner?

I have just killed my white sewing machine (as in I knocked it off the table and it broke the frame and jacked up the bobbin. It was a cheap White 3032 I bought for under $100, shook like crazy, but got the job done. I also own a Janome L392 that my husband bought for me 10 years ago for $600. It has never worked right, and although it purrs when it decides it wants to stitch, it mostly just infuriates me so bad I want to throw it across the room. So, I need a new sewing machine! I am not a beginner. I don’t want anything computerized or that threads the needle for me. I use my machine nearly daily. I mend, make quilts, sew dresses, curtains, etc. I need something that will hold up well, runs smoothly, and isn’t expensive. I don’t need a lot of fancy stitches or anything – I just need a workhorse! I’ve looked at several reviews, but honestly, I don’t know the first place to start. Anyone have any advice, so I can get back to making Christmas presents?

What brand of sewing machine is best?

My wife knows the basics about sewing but she s only a mediocre sewer so computerized stuff is too advanced for her. Can u recommend a simple to use machine but one that gives a variety of options and stitches? Thanks.
Pattiann, you are sooo sweet. No she doesn’t tell me that I am not intelligent, and I don’t think she is not intelligent either. It is just that she was standing next to me dictating to me what to type and I was repeating it word for word.
Just for the info, she bought a Singer 4166 fully computerized from Costco. she s having a heck of a time with it. It sometimes jams up and gives her a hard time. So she decided to return it and get another Brand/model.
It aint too late stephen j

What sewing machine would you recommend for me?

I have recently been taking a design class at school, and the second nine weeks of the semester we begin our fashion segment in which we learn to sew. I’ve been sewing for about a month now, so I’m still definitely a beginner. In class, we’ve learned how to make pillow cases, and right now we are working on a pair of pants. We’ve only been working with 100% cotton so far. The sewing machines at my school are Singers, if I do believe. They are not computerized, and they’re very easy to work with.

I love sewing, and I’m going to continue with it after the class is finished. What sewing machine can you recommend for a beginning sewer, but one I can also advance with for a while? I looking for preferably one of the Brother brand, but if you have a better suggestion please let me know! Thank you!

Sewing machine – top thread getting caught on bobbin lever?

I’ve been sewing for a few days (new project) and suddenly the thread/bobbin is jamming. The top thread goes down into the bobbin area, and gets caught on the little lever on the bobbin holder that’s used to get the bobbin in and out of the machine. I disassembled the bobbin casing (the two circular parts that come out, and the bobbin holder), cleaned it with the brush. I also took off the plate and brushed out the feed dogs and anything I could reach. It’s still catching on the lever. The machine is a Kenmore 12-stitch non-computerized (great work-a-day machine!), but I can’t remember the model number. What else can I do?
Edit: I went back and re-cleaned everything again (still jammed) and was preparing to try different bobbins, when I remembered something on one of those links pages that said to change the needle. So before I started switching bobbins, I changed the needle. Problem solved. NO IDEA WHY (grrrrrr! I hate unsolved mysteries!) but it does mean I can finish my project :-) Thank you all for the suggestions.

Help/advice on getting a sewing machine?

I want to buy a sewing machine but i’m not a big sewer. I like to do little projects when i’m up to it, simple sewing (hats, cases and holders, dolls, plushies). I don’t need a crazy, computerized one, but i would like one that works efficiently.

Any advice on a certain brand, or type i should get? Or websites/stores that sell them for good prices?

I know they sell some sewing machines for $99 but i want to know how well they work?

Thank you (:

What do you think my sewing machine problem could be?

Okay..so I have a brand new sewing machine.

I thread it and the bobbin is in place.
I was doing fine..sewing was great for about two days.

Now when I go to sew the needle stops, pulls tons of thread from the bobbin and the needle just vibrates and stays in the down position and won’t move.

I have to turn the machine off (its computerized) and then lift the needle by hand to remove all the bunched up thread and fabric.

What would you suggest on how to fix this?

Thank you in advance

Im look into buying sewing machine…..?

but I am not sure what to buy. I am a beginnner. What features should i look for and whats the difference between computerized and and a normal sewing machine?

HELP! Which sewing machine should I buy for making stretchy and summer clothes?

Its been ten years since I’ve done any sewing, and machines have come a long way since then… I have looked at reviews and many sites. I’ve also spoken with my mom who is a longtime seamstress. But she has not sewn much spandex and lightweight fabric. She says it tends to bunch up and is hard to work, even with zig zag. She has a surger, so I can borrow hers till I get my own.
There are computerized, electrical, and mechanical sewing machines. I thought a computerized one would be the easiest since it already has stitches and I guess adjusts itself to a point. However there are so many mixed reviews, I don’t know.
I wanted to stick with Singer or Brother. Or a company that is easy to deal with for repairs, parts, accessories, etc.
I will be sewing scrunchies, summer clothes/ lightweight and stretchy fabrics, and other lightweight projects.
However, it would be nice to have the option to sew heavier fabrics as well. budget of 4 or 500. Thanks!!!!

How can I get my machine to sew?

I own a Brother sewing machine (es2000) computerized sewing machine. It keeps jamming and flashing E6 on the screen. In my booklet, it says this means there is a tangled thread. There are no tangle threads. I even took it apart and checked the inside of my machine. There’s nothing wrong as far as I can see,yet it refuses to sew even a single stitch. It was working fine yesterday. I need a new machine, but I can’t afford one right now. Does anyone know how I can fix this or it hopeless? Thank you.

singer sewing machine 7462, how to sew button hole?

i just bought a singer sewing machine 7462, there is a computerized one step button hole setting, but when i switch to button hole and trying to sew, the sewing machine making ” be be” sound, not allow me to sew, why??

Why won’t my Singer Confidence 7470 sewing machine wind my bobbin?

I purchased a Singer confidence 7470 today and am having problems winding a bobbin. I thread the machine as described in the instruction manual and and hold the thread when I begin. When I press on the foot control to begin winding the bobbin the bobbin turns several times and then the machine beeps and the lcd screen goes blank. I can turn the machine off and turn it on again and the same thing happens (one or two rotations then the beep and the machine stops spinning the bobbin). Has anyone experienced this before, am I doing something wrong or is my machine defective? I’ve always worked on non-computerized machines, so this beeping and turning off business is making me crazy.
Well, it is busted. A brand new machine, and apparently I have to get the bootleg one or something. Singer told me to exchange it because the winding mechanism is messed up. Thanks for your help, guys.
