For Valentine’s Day I want to make my boyfriend a pillowcase like one I saw online. I don’t want to spend the 30+ dollars the his & hers set would cost, and they look easy to make by hand. I need to know what the best materials to make the pillowcases with would be. I want them to be able to withstand being machine washed, if possible. Also, I want them to be fairly comfortable to sleep on. I’ll describe the design.
One case has a stick man talking into a tin can phone and the wire extending to the end of the case. The other has the wire stretching out to a stick girl who is listening on the other end.
I know I didn’t describe that very well, so here’s a link to the site I saw the cases on: http://www.findgift.com/gift-ideas/pid-133943/
I’m pretty handy with a needle and thread. I’m excellent at embroidery and can hand sew pretty well. I’m not great at machine sewing, but I have plenty of people who can help me with that. I just need to know what materials I should use, so that they will stand up to being washed and be comfortable to sleep on. By the way, in case I wasn’t clear, I’m not making the pillowcases themselves, I’m just sewing on decorations. Also, any tips you have for me about working the project would be appreciated. Thank you!

Hi guys.
Some people on my wrestling team are getting custom letterman jackets done for them, and, even though I like letterman jackets, I’ve been eyeing a Moto-Style jacket for a while.
I was wondering if it’d be possible to put our team name/logo on the back of a leather jacket, this one being the one I have in mind : http://www.bikersden.com/shop/shopexd.asp?id=2796
I was thinking getting our logo/name (using the one we have on the back of our warm-ups as a guide) and getting someone to make that into a leather design. Then have that leather design stitched onto the jacket itself. (Another idea was embroidery, but I’m thinking the other way would look “cleaner” overall)
I was just wondering if anyone has any suggestions on how to go about doing this, or any good places I can actually get a custom piece of leather cut from a design, then sewn on. (I’m assuming they’d need a heavy-duty sewing machine, so my local tailor probably wouldn’t be the best..?)
Thanks for any ideas.
-Joe

I have a simple standard sewing machine that doesn’t do embroidery. I need tips on the right type of material to use (iron on?) and what kind of stitching I can use to design these patches, with lettering and such. I will do this with either my machine or by hand. Please help . thanks.

my wife just got her new se-350 sewing machine and was trying to embroider one of the built-in designs from the menu. she’s using a 40 weight polyester embroidery thread on the top and the white bobbin embroidery thread that came with the machine in the bobbin. she tried to do a name on a onesie with black for the color but it came out with the white bobbin thread on the design. the whole name, not just part. it used just a little bit of black at the beginning that you can’t even see unless you look at the back. please help. she’s dying to use it. thanks
we did try a new needle. she isn’t using backing or adhesive. she thinks maybe the problem is with the tension setting. any ideas? thanks

I have not touched a sewing machine or anything close to it since high school. Will purchasing a machine that has features I can hook to my computer make it easy for me to learn. I really love designing things.

A few years ago there used to be a kiosk in local shopping malls called “The Cap Factory” (I visited the one in Valley Fair in San Jose). They took a business card and scanned the company logo into a computer and then a sophisticated sewing machine replicated it (plus whatever else you had designed on to a custom hat). The result was a custom logo or message or whatever on your new hat for $45. It got cheaper with more hats.
I dont think they are around anymore but surely the technology still exists. Does anyone know where I can buy a single customized hat here in the Bay Area?
Thanks
Steve

I have just recently purchased a brother se 270d. I am completely new at embroidery and I am not sure about all of the software available to help download designs. I looked into the ped basic(because it is cheapest) but saw several complaints due to the limited capabilities with it. I don’t want to spend over $150 on something to help me to download designs from the internet. I am really interested n monogramming. Can anyone tell me what else is available for my machine that is not so expensive, yet still do a pretty good job? thanks!

I have done some light monogramming and sewing jobs for 3 years now on my Disney Brothers Machine. It was great while it last but is no longer working. I loved how easy the machine was to use, however I hated that i was only programmed with very basic and few fonts and designs. Plus I would like something that can design larger pictures and words. I had the small frame on my machine. Does anyone have any ideas on a good machine? Thanks for all the help.
Also Im looking at appliques but not sure how you put those on if anyone can help with that too. Is that done by machine?

I want to make a kind of slouchy throw around bag, but I dont want to ay 20 bucks for it. So I need a pattern for a purse. My mom is a really experienced sewer, she has this really expensive embroidery/sewing machine. So could you please give me weblinks to cool design patterns for teenish purses? Thanks!

I’m still rather new to this type of sewing and the shop supposedly adjusted the tension. However, it seems I’m pulling a lot of bobbin thread up; to the point where I’m not getting a crisp color design. I am using either black or white bobbin thread and stabilizer. Should I monkey around with the tension or is this typical? Thanks!

i want one that’s strong enough 2 b able 2 make jeans n leather stuff…u know? something that won’t break down easily with thicker fabrics. i also want it 2 b able 2 do some cool embroidery n for it 2 have other gadgets that can help me b creative with whatever i envision 2 make (if there’s anything else that sewing machines can do that i don’t know of). which brand n type is best?
also, if you know a lot about sewing… i haven’t had time 2 take classes 2 learn how 2 make clothes ( i know how 2 sew minor things but not how to make an actual full outfit) n i’m getting really anxious about starting 2 make the designs and ideas i have, so i’m going to teach myself for now until i can go 2 school (which i think is a good idea so that i have my own style about how i make things instead of following exactly how they teach me). so, another thing i want 2 know is…how should i start with this endeavor?

I am brand new to the embroidery world and have purchased a Brother sewing/embroidery combo and the PED Basic software. I bought an embroidery applique design and was able to load it to the PED writer and then onto my sewing machine. The problem is it doesn’t give me the option to make an applique, just embroider the design. Does anyone know how to make it convert to an applique? Thanks in advance!

I would like one that will be durable, not be overly basic, has a fair amount of accessories/extras and also not one made for extreme experts.
I have been wanting to get a decent sewing machine for a while now, and my birthday is coming up so I am doing some research so I can know what is best for me to ask for.
I have had a couple sewing classes so I know the basics ( I would have to refresh myself with it but I am a quick learner). I am an interior design student and mainly I will be sewing home fabric type projects(pillows, curtains, bedding, possible embroidery) (as well as some clothing repairs I am sure) but this is for myself and not for projects for school.
It definitely can be over $100, but $425-$500 is probably the max price. Hopefully something less than that, but I want something that can be dependable and not need to be replaced soon and can be repaired easily if needed.
What do you think?

I bought a used sewing/embroidery machine with a one-year serivce. I just ran it in today for the 3rd time as it keeps bunching up (way too much bobbin thread) and stops during the design, most often ruining the piece. I’ve been using size 40 (regular) sewing thread. The man at the shop said I specifically need to use ‘embroidery thread’. But, he also convinced me to buy ‘bobbin thread’ prior to this (at $8.00 a spool!); I had never heard of ‘bobbin thread’ before and felt he took me on that one. Do I need to buy threads that are specifically for machine embroidery?

I’m looking for a sewing machine that doubles up as an embroidery machine but i don’t know what to get:S?
The main things i’m looking for are:
-Something with a usb port so i can embroider my own designs easily (that will work with vista comps)
-One that is sturdy & reliable and not liable to keep breaking or knotting things up!
-That won’t leave me poor…cheaper the better without affecting quality too. Much ive currently been looking at ones £250-£500
-Something with wide range of capabilities will be nice!
But any suggestions are welcome!
What should I be looking for? Anything you can recommend? What some good reliable companys that wont rip me off by making have to buy 100’s of add on’s to get the most out the machine?
Would help me sooo much!
Thanks for reading:-)

I know it’s still summer, but the sooner I pick this out, the easier it will be for my parents come Christmas. Since it will inevitably be expensive, we need time to bargain hunt.
Anyway! I’m looking for something that does normal sewing machine functions, but when plugged into a laptop, the laptop can make it do embroidery designs (custom ones, not the card ones). Something heavy and sturdy is desirable. If anyone knows one that does this, please post the make and model~! Thanks!!
I’m not setting out to make great embroidered works of art on the thing–usually just simple 1-2 toned accents, or repeating patterns (like custom eyelet trim). I could technically do it on my current machine, which is actually pretty nice, but doing it uniformly becomes an issue. Generally though, I want one just as good (or better) at sewing as my current one. And maybe with one of those ‘even feed’ foots like the Pfaff’s I got to use at school….sure, it’s one more thing to break on it, but they’re great for topstitching….
Also, I have Photoshop, so format isn’t an issue unless the machine uses their own type.

I have been sewing for about 5 months now. I have been making outfits for my daughter (simple shirts, skirts). I would like to get a machine that has a ruffler on it, but I do not know what to look for. I would also like to start quilting with it. I tried on mine, but my machine just couldn’t handle it. Lastly, I would like to monogram or put designs on my stuff if at all possible with the other criteria. I have been shopping online, but I just cannot tell which to buy. I do not mind spending money, but I don’t want to waste it either.

Welcome to our Jewish traditions collection. This collection has been requested for the past few years and we didn’t quite know how to approach it until now. We decided to create a classic elegant collection to honor Jewish traditions. There are beautiful Menorahs, dradle’s and star of David. We’ve included large and small designs to decorate a garment or home decor item. There are also a few quilt designs that would add class to any project. We designed two different table runners for this collection.

I’m talking about built in fonts not just the “decorative embroidery stitch” you *could* use (if you’re super skilled) to make letters. I’m shopping for a new sewing machine (mine broke) and I really want to be able to embroider monograms, names, dates, etc. but can’t really afford the embroidery machine prices- and since I don’t *need* the extra embroidery designs, I can’t really justify the $300+ extra cost for just the ability to use fonts. I haven’t been able to find just a sewing machine that does fonts, though… I’m thinking it’s all or nothing with this, but thought I’d ask just in case you all knew of something I don’t.
Thanks!
The “satin stitch” is exactly what I meant by “decorative embroidery stitch”. That’s what I had on my old machine, but it never quite worked right…or maybe I just never figured out how to use it without knotting. Not sure which. Are you saying there are sewing machines with alpha and numerical built-in??? I haven’t seen this.

This is a file that comes with some of the machine embroidery designs that I purchase. I want to know if I can delete this file type. They are small but still take up space.
