I work for a Commercial laundry called CleanDryLinen that provides linen for companies and people eg.tea towels and bed linen.
All the Linen is branded with the company Logo and what type of Linen it is eg a tea towel would have the company logo and TEA TOWEL written in big bold letters. The linen also has a special Chip sewn into them so the electronic computer knows why conveyor belt and washing machine it goes into. The branding is down when an item goes through the scanner and isnt recognised, its sent down a side conveyor where its put into this machine where the linen is stretched and a big stamp with ink comes down and presses ink into it, as this is down a chip is sewn onto the linen. if the machine recognises the fabric to be faded, eg. a tea towel, it would then be stamped again with a bigger stamp that has a matching pattern, faded sheets just get re-bleached. the linen is then grabbed by two big peg-like clamps and held up in the air for about 30 seconds to dry before being put back on the conveyor to be washed and dry as normal.
Me and a few colleges want to see what happens to the linen as it is put through the process of laundering. the only way for us to gt onto the conveyor is to be fed through the scanner where we would need a chip and to get the chip we would have to be branded and re-coloured.
if we were branded and coloured, would the ink wash off or would we be tea towels that are the property of CleanDry Linen? also i dont want to be a pink and white check, yellow and white striped or bleach-white Tea Towel for the rest of my life, going through an industrial washing machine almost twice a week.

I live in California. I applied to David’s Bridal and was interviewed on the spot when I submitted my application. I need job badly, really badly. The manger was nice and she liked my schedule. I am very flexible and the position consists of taking down appointments and doing some minor sewing(beads, buttons, etc.) I can sew things like that as well as use an industrial sewing machine.
I am still entry level, like extreme entry level, I have never had a job before. It is hard to get job in CA.
How would you not get hired to David’s Bridal?

Of course when you bend the needle, or go through something way too thick it’s supposed to do this. HOWEVER, it started happening more and more and won’t even sew what it’s supposed to any more. I mean it will, but every inch or so at time, the clutch disenges and I either have to tighten it up or roll the wheel a bit to get it going again. It happens to much my fingers are sore! I have changed the needle, oiled and cleaned the machine, etc. Belt tension feels perfect and I am not sewing anything all that thick for it to do this. HELP?!?

I have a juki ddl-8700, it’s an industrial one if that should matter, and I broke my needle yesterday and I was wondering where can I buy a needle to replace my broken one. I tried Wal Mart last night and bought the wrong kind. The needle that came with the sewing machine doesn’t have a flat top surface, it’s a curvy one.
Thanks in advance.

My dad retired from the Navy w/a Rex 391-12 industrial machine. It’d been used for a while on-board ship, so they just sold it to him when he retired back in the 80’s. It’s been going strong, but may need some help soon.
I’ve looked & looked, but can’t find out who (now) makes this OR where we might find manuals for That old of a unit.
I can provide pics if needed. So… Suggestions? Websites? Anything?
Oh, and fyi.. I wrote to sewingmachineoutlet.com and others, to no avail.
We are in Lake Havasu City, AZ, and the local upholstery, etc. people didn’t have a clue about this old of a Rex.
Thanks!
Scott
– Thanks for the help so far, but please remember this was bought by my father back in the early 80’s. The machine itself, likely comes before that period, so paperwork is non-existant.
As for the websites listed, they were amongst those that I contacted, all to no avail.
I’ll keep watching — maybe someone can tell me how to contact REX directly!
Thx!!
Scott

I’m looking for a heavy duty singer sewing machine (the industrial ones that are usually all metal) but don’t know which one to buy. Some say that they can sew through think layers of fabric, even denim, and some do not say it. That’s what I am really looking for, that and a lot of different presser feet for sewing zippers and hems. I was just wondering if anyone can reccomend a heavy duty singer with features like these, or if someone can even reccomend an electronic singer that they like better that can sew thick fabric as well.

I just broke a new singer inspiration. I am sewing multiple layers of heavy fabrics (cotton duck, Cordura, etc.). After more research, I’ve read that older machines offer more power for the money, are more reliable, and easier to maintain. I like the idea of a machine I can possibly fix myself.
I found a Brother b220 in a shop that I’m told is 20 years old and was made in Korea. I can’t find any information about this machine. I’m also looking at a Daewoo (Mipar) DLS 557 industrial machine and a Janome that was made in Japan in the 60’s-70’s.
Does anyone have any info or can point to place where I can do more research? I’m also into hearing some suggestions for other machines. Unfortunately, old machines made in the US or Europe are too expensive here. I live in Korea (hence the Asian made machines).

I am considering buying a Brother CS6000i. I don’t want to spend a fortune for an industrial machine because I tend to drift away from my hobbies over time. My main desires for it:
a) heavy duty dog bed covers – think canvas, or upholstery fabric with zippers
b) hemming denim pants
c) occasional more lightweight sewing – curtains, hemming regular type pants, etc.
The brother cs6000i has good reviews. Can anyone comment on its ability to handle heavy fabrics? Many folks have told me to go to a store to try them out… I am a total newbie and thus wouldn’t even know what to look for. I plan to take a class at a local sewing store to get started.
Previously I have used machines to sew shorts and curtains, but that was over 15 years ago!

I need a heavy duty sewing machine to sew through many layers of fabric and batting… the machine I have now is not quite strong enough and it binds up a lot. I have a Kenmore (which is an awesome machine by the way) I paid over $300 for it and I am so sad that it will not longer suit my needs…
Any suggestions? Do you own an industrial strength machine that you are happy?

I have an old Singer sewing machine that I’m going to try to sell but I have no idea what its worth. There’s little info on the net as far as the value. I found where the machine was manufactured in 1911. I was also able to find a couple of numbers on the machine…95-1 and G4517070. It is mounted on a table like an industrial machine and sews very very fast. It works great the only problem I have with it, is that the tension disc on the front keeps falling out everytime I sew. I can’t see where or what is supposed to old that in. Otherwise its a great little machine. Very heavy duty. Any help in trying to figure out how much its worth would be greatly appreciated!
Thanks

I found one for sale that is from the 60’s. I am looking for something heavy duty and it has a metal casing with a basic straight stitch. (It looks like a smaller version of an industrial machine) I have never heard of the brand and wanted to know if anyone has worked with one before and if you would recommend it.
thank you

I’ve been making lots of cute novelty purses with my ole’ 1982 kenmore. Serged purses seem to hold up really well but I’m wondering if a bookbag/backpack would be pushing it.
Is there a really strong kind of thread I can buy? If I really wanted to sell them would I need an industrial weight machine or a serger?
Thanks
hooray I can’t afford any more equipment anyways!

I would like to buy my boyfriend a sewing machine for his birthday. I was told that the Singer 20U professional is a good industrial machine. The lady told me it was $600. I also was looking at a machine on Kijiji for $450 which was an industrial machine made by Pemal. It’s Japanese so I don’t know what that means… Thanks!

Ok, I want to throw this thing out this second story window. I have a Juki DDL-8500 industrial machine and I can’t get it to sew! My bobbin thread gets all tangled under my fabric and then breaks my top thread, or something! I don’t know what it is but I can get it to about four stitches before it becomes a mess. I changed the needle and the bobbin case is clean and I took out the needle plate and it’s all clean. Please help me…

I’m currently using a Juki DL5550 in sewing class and I’m really impressed. Now I want to get my own Juki and I’m looking into buying the DL8700, since it’s the only industrial machine I could afford. Any feedback about the machine would be appreciated.
Oh, and does anyone know if this particular model is made in Japan? I’ve seen other Jukis that are Made in China.
