I recently bought a nice black dress which is versatile for both work and formal occasions. The problem is that the length is a bit too long for me (i’m too short) and needs to be taken up by a couple of inches. It also has a slit on the back as well. How do i hem the skirt without a sewing machine?

I’m new to sewing, and was wondering if there was a way that I can preserve a sewing pattern. I’ve been making my son a bunch of pajamas, but the pattern is starting to get a bit ragged, and I hate spending the money to buy another pattern again. Any suggestions or helpful hints????

I know how to set up and use my sewing machine, but I’m no good at troubleshooting.
When I stitch a line with it, the top looks fine but the underside looks rough. Like the bobbin is feeding too much thread. Theres small loops and bunched up thread.
Any ideas how I can resolve this? I’m making a quilt for my nephews first birthday and I’m running out of time!

I have a singer Stylist 514 sewing machine and the handwheel is stuck, anyone know how to fix this problem ?
The wheel won’t turn when trying to lift the needle, my choice of words were wrong, as I was sewing, it just kept banging and banging and then I tried to get the needle up and it just stops it won’t turn anymore and it doesn’t feel “sticky or needs oil” just plain stops.

I know basic stitches and have made a couple projects, mainly pillows. I usually embroider and only use sewing to sew my embroidery project together. Do you think it would be too ambitious to try to make a simple dress? If so what should I do to get the experience I need to make one?

I’ve got a Singer Advance sewing machine. I was sewing fine all night. But now when I press the pedal it “beeps.” I can’t find the manual. I checked what I could think of, and turned it off and on, still it only beeps when I press the foot pedal. Any ideas?
Thanks for the research about the needle being up. Actually, no, I’ve tried moving the needle up or down via the knob on the right, there’s no problem there. Also, the people on that site were talking about a difficult to use embroidery machine. I really just have a straight up sewing machine. And somehow now when I press the pedal it goes “beep beep…beep beep…beep beep” as if I’m supposed to know what that means. I guess I’m not the only one stumped

My friends and I are wanting to design some of our own clothes, but I don’t have a sewing machine, other than my grandma’s that I MIGHT be able to borrow, but it’s ancient, and the controls are SOO confusing. How much would a simple, yet good quality sewing machine be? And where could I find one?

I live in an urban area. The nearest fabric and craft stores are 64 to 154 miles away. I would like to start a sewing & craft store out of my garage in hopes of expansion into a small community 20 miles from me. But I want to start at home to see if this will prosper.

When sewing moderate stretch knits I frequently run into an issue where the fabric gets pulled into and then is stuck under the throat plate.

I have tried adjusting the upper tension but that did not make a difference. The presser foot is currently on its lowest pressure preset (though it seems like a lot already). I read about switching throat plates for a small hole one, but then I would not be able to do zig-zags. What are my other options ?

Well, I’m 14 and I would like to get a sewing machine for my birthday. There are a lot of projects that I would like to create but most of them call for a sewing machine. I don’t want anything super high-tech, maybe just something with a push pedal thing.

So, if I wear a size 6 off the rack, what size would I need to use for a Simplicity sewing pattern? Why are the sizes so different?

I bought the little mini multi-purpose sewing machine. The purple Pixie by Singer from Wal-Mart. It came with tiny size thread and when I bought some from Target, it was too thick so I am not sure what size or whatever to get. I read that you can buy certain kinds depending on the material you are sewing but I don’t think that applies to this machine.

What’s the difference between regular sewing fabric and quilting fabric, if there is a difference? I don’t want to end up purchasing the wrong fabric to create my quilt.

I love sewing! But my mom only has a really old one, and the only time I ever get to sew is if my parents go on vacation and me and my brother and sister go to our grandmas (she lives next door). And I don’t want it to be too expensive! And it would be nice if it had a lite blue on it, but if not that is most definitely ok! The blue is just something that I would like but don’t have to have! and it would be nice for it to be kinda small, and not too big.

I have sewn by hand before and done small crafts, but I went out and got my first Singer sewing machine. I am finding it is not as easy as it looks. What are some helpful hints you have discovered? The most important thing to know? Anything that you found helpful as you were learning.

I am looking for sewing patterns for corsets. A friend is getting married, and I have agreed to help her out by sewing undergarments for her bridal party. The women are to be dressed as Southern Belles circa 1850 (Think Gone With The Wind).
I am not looking for absoluely authentic patterns. Its not being judged by the 1850 costuming police. I just need a good corset pattern that will stand up to cinching the waist an inch or two, without being too bulky. If the patterns are a bit mroe modern or older in design, I can deal with that, noone will be seeing them.

I have one of these machines and i heard thru the grapevine that this machine is worth my “weight in gold”! I wanted to see if there was anyone on this site with any expertise in the history of old sewing machines.

I am looking for a sewing pattern online to make a miniature Japanese style kimono for a baby. I can only find ones that are based on the wrap style of the kimono, but aren’t actually miniature japanese ones. Does anyone know where I can find a pattern like that?

Im trying to sew together a blanket Im selling for our adoption fundraiser. The needle on my sewing machine keeps unthreading itself in the middle of me sewing. Its easy to fix, but it really is neusance. Its never done this before and I dont know what is causing it. Can anyone help me?

I am making a flannel baby blanket and am not sure what sewing thread I should use. I know of the polyester, but know nothing else about thread. Does anyone have any suggestions?
