I do not like her in the least bit. She didn’t raise my husband- she abandoned him as a child- and now they have a weird relationship. I have never made an effort to get close to her- I am only polite and nice. Lately she has been calling for me but it’s for annoying reason- like she is convinced that I can whip up these couture dresses for her in 5 seconds since I have taken college fashion design classes. I have explained to her that is not the case but she keeps coming up with these crazy ideas. Like she wanted me to copy a dress her friend bought for $50… because I could make it “cheaper” for her- which is just completely insane with the cost of fabric plus my time. So I have been keep distance from her. She hasn’t made any efforts to get closer with her son but the other day- she told him (she left a message on our machine and he returned her call) to tell me- that “she wishes I would call more”. She invited me to bake bread last time I saw her and I explained I was very busy, I work full time, go to school at night and we are selling our house which still needs repairs- plus I have a bread maker. But she never bothered to come see our home, or visit us or make plans with her son. My husband thinks his family is borderline white trash and his mother thinks that I am “high end” so she is desperate for me to pay attention to her so can up herself to a new social status. This actually makes sense since her husband sisters hate her and think she is WT but they all LOVE me- and now are coming to family function to see me and my husband.
What do I do? I don’t want to spend any of my limited free time with her. I barely see my own mother whom I love with all my heart. I only call her when I have something to say but she is not the type of person I would chit chat with. And I am tired of her asking me for sewing favors when she knows how to sew and knows how much work and pressure I am under. Do I just keep going this tap dance of hiding from her?
How can I polietly express to her that I don’t have time to make her clothing, call her weekly or do things with her?
Hey Mommy of 4- that’s how I feel, why isn’t she bothering to get to know her own son!! Why me?
1. I don’t think I am better then anyone. My husband thinks that she does which is causing her to be deperate for my attention. She doesn’t do it to anyone else.

Back aroud Christmas I sold a piece of sewing equipment I received from my grandmother on ebay. As far as I was aware, it had all of the pieces. I had even used it a few times and it was fully functional, so I didn’t think there was anything missing except for regular maintenence items such as wax, extra needles, etc…
Anyway, I sold it on ebay and the woman who bought it said that there were about 5 things missing which she listed as the maintenence items I mentioned above. As far as I know, these do not come with the machine intitially, so why would I have to provide them? They are usually purchased after you have had the machine for a while for repairs and waxing the gears so they run smoothly.
I stated in the auction that all of the parts were there, and that I did not accept returns (my usual policy which I’ve had no problems with before). Now she wants either a refund of the purchase price (in full including shipping) or me to “replace” these missing pieces. What to do?
To elaborate a bit more, this person opened a squaretrade complaint about me, and said if I don’t send the “missing items” by Friday, she will take me to court!
What do I say to this person, as these items were not included with the purchase of the machine initially? I don’t know what to do? I am only 15 and don’t have a lot of money to buy these extra parts for her!

I’ve just recently begun sewing for the sake of being able to fix perfectly good clothes and such, but my blanket has recently ripped and I’m not sure how to go about fixing it. I believe the tag on it says warm wash, no bleach, and tumble dry but it’s a little hard to tell because it’s all so worn. Idk if that helps at all with deciphering the cloth type. It feels like a synthetic of some sort. It’s not quiet soft enough to be cotton. The tear is at the very bottom edge of the blanket, fortunately not the corners but, any idea what I could use or do to repair it and still be machine washable?

I Asked this same question in general Business and Finance, no answer. Bought a vacuum cleaner via Amazon.com
4 months later need repair. Local repair place says anytime you buy vacuum cleaners on line there’s no warranty. You notice there’s no way to register it, he says. My friend says correct and that goes for sewing machines also.Yet I know if I buy a camera via Amazon.com which many times comes from Beach Camera, or Abe’s of Maine, walla there my 1 year warranty. So how are warranties determined on line? Is it the particular item?

I am 6 mo pregnant, and all the stress relievers I have used in the past I cannot do and I am really frustrated. I am in preterm labor so can do just about well NOTHING and it is driving me nuts, I cant sew- my machine kicked out and cant afford a repair job on a 40 year old machine or a new machine either, I cant shop we are too low on cash to do so, I cant go running, situps are out and so are pushups and boxing, my dog doesnt understand the concept of a leash and flipped me on my ass the other morning so my husband and doctor say no more of that, I cant paint, I cant sing(my voice makes my dog and 2 year old whine and wince and my 9 mo old laugh) I burn everything I cook lately, my house is already as clean as it is going to get, I am so frustrated I could cry. I have no close friends or family and the ones I do have are not very nice alot of the time, they like to put me down to make themselves feel good and so I feel worse after talking to them

Every teen with a horse-related dream seems to want to be a trainer or an instructor or a vet or own a big show barn…why does no one ever seem to want to be a saddle maker?
There is such a shortage of good saddle makers. Saddles (and tack in general) are expensive. There is a great profit margin, a lot of what you are paying for with good quality hand-made tack is the skilled labor that goes into it.
My farrier’s grandson has started his own tack business. He started off just making halters and is now doing custom tack sets, bridles, brow bands etc. He made enough money to invest in a really nice leather sewing machine. He does saddle cleaning, saddle, harness and other tack repairs and is making quite a business out of it.
The stuff he makes is really, really nice too! He uses the best leather he can get ahold of and really nice hardware. He plans on getting into saddle making now that he’s got some experience under his belt, and eventually into harness making.
He’s been doing this for a couple years now. Last month at our local tack exchange he made $1,200 in one afternoon! He’s only 18 years old!
It got me thinking…why don’t more young people want to take up this trade? It seems like good saddle makers are a dying breed (kinda like good horsemen, but that’s a whole other discussion). There is definitely a market for the service and the products.
Has anyone on here considered this as a career path?
Feel free to elaborate on good horsemen being a dying breed too, it would stand to reason that there is a correlation between the two.

A few days ago, I bought some sewing supplies to patch up the trunk of some rather nice black dockers pants I’ve had for a while now. Amongst them was a spool of black thread. Well, after fiddling around with the sewing machine for a while, I finally got the pants repaired. I set the pants down on the sofa in the living room and went to bed. I woke up the next morning and the pair of pants was on my ceiling fan. I live alone, so this puzzled me. I took the pants down, set them on the sofa and went about my day as usual, but for some reason, I couldn’t shake the feeling seeing those pants on the fan gave me, so I took work off early. When I got home, the pants were nowhere to be found. This rather startled me, for I feared a burglar had broken in and was still lurking about the house. I immediately took off for my room to grab a bat, and I laid eyes on the black spool of thread. I’ve never felt such terror before. I can’t go to my house. Can Satan possess inanimate objects, like thread?

So I have sewn a lot of things, ive repaired clothing for people, adjusted hems on friends clothing. But i have never taken the time and effort to attempt making my own clothing. Probably because i was scared i would fail miserably lol. I have made drawings of mini skirts and dresses and i am finally ready to try it out. Im good with a sewing machine, and hand sewing but what im looking for is a good instructional book that gives step by step instructions with illustrations. Things like making pleated mini skirts (Because im a pre-op transsexual) and things like dresses, and possibly even shirt. Looking for new hobbies so i spend less time online btw!

I have had these machines for an eternity and I have grown fearful of even using them because something always goes wrong and I do not know how to repair or troubleshoot it. I was a seamstress for 30 yrs with no problems then I began to have problems after I moved. There is a repair shop but the cost is out of my budget especially for both. I rarely sew anymore but by golly when I need to I’d like to be able to. Help
I have both instruction booklets, they do have some references to taking the bottom off and oiling it-done that been there.

I was given a Touch and Sew Zig Zag model 758 by my husbands grandmother. I removed the bobbin case to clean out lint from the machine and now I cannot seem to replace it. The machine needs other repairs I think. The needle does not line up with the hook?

So I’m going to contribute to this whole green contribution. I just got a sewing machine, and I think I’m going to start a recycled clothing business. People in my local area can bring me there clothes, either for repair, or just to get something totally differant. The main idea though is to just use recycled clothing, instead of throwing it away. This idea just popped in my head. So I’m not sure about all the details yet. I’m also thinking about charging money, so that I can donate to a Green Charity. (Any good charities in mind?) I was thinking about 75% of my profit. (I do want some money for my time, and to keep up matinence and stuff) Any suggestions?

How can I replace the insert pin back onto my daughters jacket. Someone at her school tried to zipper up her coat yesterday and incorrectly did it now that piece is busted off. This coat was expensive and I just purchased it how can I repair it quickly and accurately so it doesn’t have to be done again? I also don’t want to take off the zipper as I do not have a sewing machine, don’t know how to sew and there is no place around where I live that fixes these things.
Thanks
As far as I know there are no tailors around here I have already checked.

I just re-read it for the 3rd or 4th time, and it struck me as especially poignant right now with all of the recession talk. Towards the end, the World Controller tells the Savage that social stability depends on people consuming more and more stuff and replacing things instead of repairing them. Isn’t that exactly what’s happening right now in the US? The only reason we’re getting these stupid rebate checks is to get us to buy some crap. So is there some magic plan that a few months after we get these checks to make sure we all have our own spending money again?
I recently found myself contemplating whether to repair the hem on an otherwise perfectly good pair of pants or to replace them. Then I slapped myself back into reality and turned on the sewing machine. But still, we encounter these kinds of decisions every day, and often the “just replace it” mentality wins out, much to the chagrin of those who lived through the Great Depression. Is there any way out of this cycle?

I really have no idea what to ask for for Christmas…I am 16 and I am a girly-girl. I love cute fluffy things and I am creative/artsy. I also really like old fashioned things. The only things I have on my list so far are some new makeup stuff, some cute new clothes (that’s not vague at all), and a new sewing machine because ours is older than I am and broken beyond repair. I don’t want anything electronic because my brothers are already asking for everything under the sun that can be plugged into a socket. I really don’t know what to ask for because I am blessed to have lots of nice things but any suggestions would be appreciated

I am having trouble with the bobbin on my sewing machine. The bobbin thread seems to not be catching with the top thread and the machine is making a clicking noise. Sometimes the thread either tangles with the top or they both break. When this first started the needle was bent, so I replaced the needle, rethreaded and cleaned, all with no luck. I’m really trying to avoid a huge repair bill, any suggestions? I’m wondering if I need a new bobbin case??

Ok, we’re in a lot of debt (credit and school) and we’re trying to get out but haven’t had a vacation for over 3 years. (just used days to stay at home or for doctors appointments. that’s NOT vacation).
We live almost paycheck to paycheck as we’re trying to pay things off faster, but my kids are at the perfect age to start camping (2,4,6) and my wife doesn’t like the idea of a regular tent, and I don’t want her first camping trip to be a disaster. I’ve been looking for a cheap tent trailer (and I think I found one that is in decent shape except for the canvas needing to be replaced). I think I can get it for 400 or less. I’m very good at fixing things and I think I could do the canvas myself (I have access to industrial sewing machines) and whatever other repairs there are to be done. Is this a bad idea that is going to end up costing a lot more?
I’m just so tired of being stuck at home and I hate giving money to motels. That’s money I’ll never ever see again.

I just purchased a Mitchell and Ness reproduction 1958 Sandy Koufax Los Angeles Dodgers wool flannel baseball jersey on eBay. The jersey is gorgeous and I got it for a cheap price. However, there’s one issue with it. The old wool flannel baseball jerseys had four eyelet holes in each armpit. This one has them in one armpit but not in the other. I imagine it’s a “factory second” and that’s why I got it so cheap. Anyway, I’ve tried all the local tailoring/alteration shops, seeing if they would be willing to add the eyelet holes to make the jersey “meet specifications,” and nobody wants to tackle it. The eyelet holes have some kind of stitching around them, like it was done on a really heavy duty sewing machine, and none of the folks I talked with say they can do it, they say they don’t have the proper equipment. One even suggested I take it to a shoe repair guy and see if his stitching machine could do it. (He couldn’t.) I would be willing to send this jersey off to someone who does wool alterations to get this issue fixed, does anyone have any ideas about, or know of, somebody in the continental U.S. who I could contact and might could do this job for me? Is it that difficult an assignment? Thanks in advance for any help.

I purchased my Singer model 4832C from Home Shopping Club in 1997. In 1998, I was in a near death car accident. This machine was never used, I wanted to start sewing again. As I started to thread the machine and wind the bobbin, I noticed the disk on the hand wheel is not fully attached the hand wheel. Either it was damaged in transit from Home Shopping Club warehouse to my home, or… honestly, I have no idea. The machine was stored in the original boxes, when my husband brought the machine to me from where it was stored; a finished room in the basement. I have been disabled since the accident, disability is minimal, my husband’s business fell through 2 years ago. Obviously, I am on a limited income, is there a way I can do this repair? Possibly my husband? Thank you in advance for being patient and reading this email. I will await a reply from you.

My hubby cut a V-shaped hole in his shirt on accident, as it was laying under the area he was using a box knife. Oops! Is there an easy way I can patch this up without it looking corny? Luckily the hole is on the back lower part of the shirt. I don’t have a sewing machine but I was thinking of just finding matching thread and sewing it up by hand. Should I use some kind of patch underneath for strength? Any tips would be great, I haven’t had much experience with mending clothes but this is one of his fav shirts.
Oh, it is a long-sleeve thicker shirt, almost like a sweater but not quite. Thanks!

I belongs to a traditional family. I am the only son of my parents and got 2 sisters. I had to marry this girl,( my wife) in 1983, due to my father’s wishes as he declared “my son either marry to this girl ( now my wife) or he will take it as he never had a son & he will take it as our father / son relationship is broke for ever, and, it was due to my regards for my father and my commitments for my family that I never bothered about her physical outlook, education or family background and I full filled my father’s wish. I have been sincere to her for the whole 28 years of my married life, even during this long span of time, I had plenty of occasions & opportunities but I never even tried to have any extra martial relationship to any of the female, who ever happened to come in my contact during my professional life, and even when I rarely had pleasant Regular sexual marriage relationship with her. I am not sure if she got some medical problems or what! , she can behave as a normal affectionate wife/life partner only for a couple of days and then again, for the coming 2-3 months, she becomes a totally withdrawn lady , staying away, rude behavior, showing no care no affection at all, no love nothing kind of husband – wife relationship. The reason I am referring her as “half crazy kind of woman” -she is 100% pro parental family and always claim they are always right and I am always wrong. She don’t care about the financial resources available at home, whenever she visit any member of her family, she spend a lot for buying gifts for all of them, right for the youngest child to the elderliest one of her family, she will buy for them every kind of cloths -right from socks- under wears – head gears everything. If she is not visiting tem then she will send them gifts occasionally. On the other side, recently my elder sister gave her some money to buy her and for her daughters some good clothes, she bought some used one and packed them to look like new and charged her @ the cost of the new ones.My sister never complained her knowing about her temperament, but later she told me that she don’t even give these kind of clothes to her domestic servant.
She don’t have time for me-the husband, either to even fix small things for example- recently in order to avoid spending money to buy a new headgear for my self, II told her to do some repair using sewing machine but she never bothered, to take care of that. even she know we can save some money if the repair is done
Talking about her nature, she is so un predictable that I am never sure, what the hell of the next moment her behavior will be. She is too short tempered, and often if she think some thing is not as she exactly want it to be, she start shouting loud on me, throwing any thing which she find around shutting the door on my face. To her, me and all my family members i.e. my mom, my two sisters and other relatives are inferior to her and her family, whenever the facts are- Education wise I got a Pre-Doctoral Research Degree, a Master’s, a B.A and B.A. Honors in Literature, major part of my professional life I had been doing respectful , nice office jobs or teaching B.A. classes in college. Physically I am blessed with a pleasant personality with a height of six feet compared to her education she was only Matriculate (10th Grade) at the time of marriage, I paid from my pocket to get her B.A Degree later, she got wheatish complexion and five feet one inch in height. My father was an Army Officer, we lived in modern cities, with good schooling and her father was a Middle class employee, they lived in small towns, with no good schooling. She is doing a blue colored job . We got two kids my son is 26 years old and my daughter is 22 years old. They both are in school and will be n school for couple of more years. She every now and then can create a mess of the family environment and often warn me she will divorce me. I have told her several times I don’t want to divorce but if you feel like I will co operate and to anything legally required to complete the process to get divorce but there is no need of her to shout, behave rudely and disrespectfully, lets go to the court and let the law take its own action, here I would like to clarify why I don’t want to go for divorce-1. In our community divorce is taken as a shame full happening for males and for females too, what I believe being a responsible person of the family that we are not supposed to behave like teen aged, immature couples-playing divorce-divorce at this time of our lives, specially when I am 53 and she is 45 years old. 2. About my kids because I believe it is the time that in near future we are supposed to find a bride for our son and a husband for our daughter instead of messing up with our marriage and ending up with a divorce. It will reflect as a negative point of our family, while finding good partners for both of them from some respectable families.
I lov

So i bought this dressform like 6 months ago at Joann’s but the adjuster thing broke from the waist which is a real problem. I took it to Joanns and they said that there was nothing they could do they had a 90 day policy, where you could return it. but that was too late. so they suggested i take it to a sewing repair shop. Now the only problem is i dont know where a nearest sewing repair shop is around here in anaheim. My fashion teacher suggested “Miller’s Sewing Machine” a block from La Palma, shse didnt know the adress i tryed searching on map quest but it was useless. can any one help or suggest an other place close around anaheim?

About 4 years ago I got involved with a nice woman who, while technically “not my type”, was friendly and cuddly and made me feel good. I have had very few relationships due to my shyness around ladies which is weird because my customers are 99 percent women. I repair sewing machines. The reason I need to move on is that she has become increasingly distant, disrespectful and difficult to talk to. I think she is really a good person at heart, and I wish things were different, but she doesn’t want me any longer I guess. The other day she told me that she loves me but isn’t in love with me. Huh? The problem is I hurt myself at work and have been disabled since February ‘08 and while I am getting Worker’s Compensation payments, our finances are very short. She recently got an inheritance but blew it on jewelry and such. I cannot afford an apartment on my own for awhile although I pay the rent here.
I need some ideas please. I am 58 years old, in a relationship, and still lonely.

So I’m just learning how to use a sewing machine, so I invited a friend over to teach me who was experinced in using machines.
He slowly walked me through the threading process, winding the bobbin, all that jazz.
so when we got to the actual putting-the-fabric-in part, he got really confused, because the teeth under the foot were only moving up and down, not moving in the circle that would move the fabric along. We got some stitches in, but only by pulling the fabric, not guiding it like the lady was doing in the “Instructional” DVD. And if you’ve got a Prelude, you know the manual is pretty much unhelpful.
he suggested taking to a repair shop, but I’d like to do that only as a last resort… Any help please???

How do i put the slide plate back on my sewing machine?O.o It fell off as a result of fabric getting caught in it (actually, I had to take it off to pull the fabric out). Now I have little a clue on how I’m supposed to put it back on? Does it slide on or what?
It has these curved black things on the bottom of it that are screwed it, where do those fit? More importantly, is this a major problem or will it go on easily?
P.S. I’m new with sewing machines and repair. I read that you take the slide plate off if the machine needs to be cleaned, but i can’t find how to replace it (it doesn’t use screws or anything).:c
here’s the piece I’m talking about;

are really only for repairs and light hemming. For about 30-50 dollars at Walmart. Are they any good or are they a waste of money?

It is an old Singer Stylemate and whenever I take it in to have it adjusted, it messes up within one project. Essentially, the tension gets too tight even though I have it on the most loose setting. I have changed the needle, played with the tension on scraps of fabric and then just sewn with the problem but have to rethread it every 6 inches or so because the thread keeps breaking. Whenever I take it in, the repair people always try to talk me into purchasing a new machine but they are so expensive! What should I do?
