I am experienced at sewing, but with my Brother machine, and a used Kenmore machine I have fixed up for my sister, they occasionally skip stitches on knits. I bought a 1970’s vintage Bernina at an auction recently, and tuned that up, and it NEVER skips stitches (so far, just got it a couple months ago and not used it much yet). My newer Brother machine (circa 1990) has an automatic buttonholer though, so I would still like to use it sometimes, and I would like to set up multiple machines for production sewing at times. Also, my sister uses her 1970’s Kenmore that I tuned up, to sew knits, but she also gets occasional skipped stitches.

Seems like the machines skip stitches when sewing with the stretch of the fabric, such as hemming a shirt or putting elastic on underwear, etc. I usually am using Tshirt type fabric that is 100% cotton or cotton-poly.

I slowed down, that helped somewhat, I have used ballpoint, stretch, all purpose needles, from Schmetz mostly, but other brands too. Makes no difference what brand, the two machines skip stitches. I use Guterman thread, no difference. Stretch the fabric a bit as I sew, no help. I would say I get a skipped stitch every couple inches, so it’s a disaster if I were topstitching or hemming. I fooled around with tension, no help.

Is there some adjustment I need to make on the sewing machines? The Bernina works GREAT on knits, and these other machines, I can’t get it right. Until I got the Bernina, I did as much on my serger as I could. Now I can topstitch on knits and stuff, happy me.

tx for any tips!

PS if you know how to sew that slinky metallic doubleknit such as used for dance costumes, that would really help too. It’s some kind of lycra, I think. Metallic on the front, black on the back. Skipped stitches galore! I am unable to sew it on a regular sewing machine at ALL and must use the serger for everything, which is difficult because I sew doll clothes.

Either the thread from the spool keeps getting caught and the result is like spaghetti on the underside of the cloth and needs to be cut and resewn
or the thread breaks up in the machine like the tensioner is too tight (even though I haven’t changed dials)
Any Advice?

I sew alot of layers of fabric together and i need a strong machine that will be able to pull my fabric through the machine without losing tension. I notice that the singer model i got from target loses the tension very fast and has a hard time chugging along when im sewing. Any thoughts on what characteristics of a sewing machine i should look for in doing this kind of work?

Hi I am extremely new to sewing and I just got my first sewing machine (brand new brother ls-2125). I read the instructions carefully and was attempting to wind my first bobin when I realized that I have no clue what I am doing. I did everything as instructed but when I press the foot pedal, the engine runs but nothing happens. The needle does not move nor does the bobin wind. I feel like in the process of meeting and greeting my machine I must have flipped some switch or something that would explain this. I don’t think its broken because its new. On all the you tube instructional videos I watched, they all pushed the bobin winder to the right (did that), and then pulled out the balance wheel (mine does not pull out) before they started the motor. Is there something I am missing since I can’t pull my balance wheel out? Is there a switch or lever to go from spinning bobin to moving needle to nothing happening?

here’s a picture on my machine if that helps http://www.google.com/products/catalog?hl=en&q=sewing+machine+brother+ls+2125&cid=3003576451677689476&sa=image#p

Thanks!

I already have a brothers sewing machine, but it has been nothing but trouble since i got it. I wanna learn to sew so i can have cute and unique cloths for my senior year. What sewing machine would u suggest? It needs to be $80 or less. And easy for a beginner to learn on. Also, if you know a good website that teaches you the basics of sewing with a machine i would really appreciate it. (I do know some already from a class i had to take in school) Thanks.
I have already gone through the manual and tried to figure it out. I had absolutely no problem using other machines, this is the only one i have had trouble with, and i have read reviews from other people and they seem to have the same problem as i do.

Im planning on an making an animation series, but before I get working on storyboarding, I need some advice on main characters, I’ve been trying to add depth to. Please tell me if this villian sounds cliche’. (Keeping in mind this series will be fantasy.)

Sinclair Aelobisa

Age: 216

Design: Sinclair looks extremely youthful due to EVE in her bloodstream (EVE is the term for magic in the story), giving her the build of a 16 year old woman. Her hair and iris are white due to lack of pigment. Her hairstyle involves slanted bangs and long wavy hair, with signature hair buns on the side. She dresses in a rather Victorian-esque appeal, with collar’s ruffle’s, but with armor plates sewn in for combat purposes. Shes rather beautiful, which deeply contrasted by her personality.

Personality/Story: Abuse and abandonment scarred her in her childhood. Being left to fend for herself in the snowy wastelands of her home country Urcoria, she got her education from any village she could tear down. Solitary life has given her extreme narsissicm, since the only person who she could admire was herself. Like the protagonist of my story, she was born a Guardian, a division of humans that had enough EVE in there body to regenerate cells as fast as they die; creating immortality. Because of the magic (Darkness to be exact) in her body, she became a formidable killing machine, most well equipped with a blade. By the time she turned 16, she was an intelligent, deadly, and sociopathic monster with no sense of apathy or mercy.

Objective: Sinclair hates the world she lives in, and as such desires to achieve god-hood to wipe it out and create the world she always wanted.

Method: Being a Guardian, her own supersoldier characteristics make her an almost unstopable force. With all the Dark EVE in her body she assembled an army of dark creatures she named the “Sanctus”, which she commands at will.

Criticism is wanted please!

I have owned my machine for about 3 years now. I have had trouble with it since i got it. I have changed the bobbin from plastic to a metal one. Which seems to have helped with some of the problem. The main problem i think is with the tension. I have tried to change it many times and it doesn’t work. The bottom string when i am sewing gets bunched up on the fabric. What would you suggest for the tension setting on this machine? and what # stitch would you say? I would like to fix it soon, because i will need my machine to make an outfit. If you can help that would be great!

H a l o

She lay on my operating table; my insides churned. My thoughts mixed together; I was apprehensive. All the negative thoughts surrounding her, and the question if she would live, weighed me down. My hands lay flat on the table, next to her beautiful torso. I clenched them, feeling light-headed. She was all I had ever sought after, all I had ever wanted to accomplish. If her eyes did not open, my heart would break inside my chest.
Open your eyes, my lovely. Live for me. Please, please, my angel.
The life support machine beeped. She was alive. She was a living person, but unresponsive. Her chest inflated when she inhaled, and went down when she exhaled. My heart skipped; there was a pressure on my chest and sweat gathered among my brow. My greatest fear was that she would not wake; that she would never live to experience life as I wanted her too. She was my greatest creation; she was far more advanced than a simple science fair project. She was going to be a real, living person.
All was dark around me except for her. Lamps hung over our heads, illuminating our skin. The lamp light enlightened her complexion, creating a somewhat transparent neon green look to her skin. She was striking, even as a sewn up doll.
Frustration and hopelessness slowly seeped into me; the thought of her never waking strangled me. She had to; I did everything right. Everything about her was fine; she was alive. She just had to wake from her coma. I unclenched my fists and looked down at my hands, blood gathering around the indents that I had been pressing my nails into. I felt so unfinished, my vision blurred and tears pooled around my eye lids. She was never going to open her eyes. It was all a waste of my time, my mind, and my heart. I shut my eyes tightly and silently sobbed. My skin burned as each tear peeled from my eyes and slid down my cheeks.
I heard a sudden cracking of a voice, as if someone was trying to speak but there was sand in their throat. My heart stopped beating as I opened my eyes and looked down at her through my teary fog. A grin played itself over my face and the happiest half hour of my life began. Her mouth was open slightly and her eyes wide in fear. Her irises resembled lime green jell-o: they caught me off guard. The eyes that I had picked out for her were weren’t that green. Perhaps it was the chemicals in her system that caused such a reaction.
She stared up at me, frightened. I smiled at her. I wanted to do so much more though. I wanted to jump up and down and laugh! Finally! I had a daughter of my own. I would have to make her feel loved, all of the time. I gently patted her black wavy hair; it felt soft between my fingers. Some of the confusion and fear left her facial expression and she lightly smirked at me. I knew that she knew who I was. Even though she was completely ignorant towards everything in the world; she was aware that I was there for her and for eternity would be.
I took my hand from her hair and held it out to her. She raised her hand to mine and placed her palm against it. I gripped her tighter, and slowly pulled her up so she was sitting up right. I was in love, not in the romantic sexual way… but in the way that a father loves his daughter.
She took her hand from mine and raised both of hers in front of her face; her mouth hung open as she examined her fingers. Her focus shifted and her hands fell slowly. She stared wide-eyed at her thighs, then gently touched her skin. When she felt the texture of her flesh she looked up at me, very surprised. She was really, just too cute. Even though she was built to look like a 20 year old, she was similar to a new born. Well, she was a new born – technically. She looked away from me and went back to investigating her body. She moved her fingers diagonally across her waist, feeling the stitches. Her eyes squinted in confusion.
I had wrapped white ribbon around her, so she was not exposed. The ribbon went over her breasts: They went down between her thighs, then travelling under and up her back. She was very thin. I didn’t want to make her so skinny, but I had a limited amount of resources. Her torso and legs were elongated and her stomach was stitched from her right rib cage to her hip bone. I would eventually be able to take out the stitches, once her flesh began to heal.
I looked at her lovingly: I felt so complete. I had nothing to worry about; I could finally be happy. She raised her hands to my face slowly; her lips curved upward and her eyes smiled at me as well. She placed her hands on the side of my face and felt the feeling of my skin. Her body was warm. In a way it made me feel even more accomplished and even happier. She grinned wider at me as my smile increased.
“Your name will be Halo, because you’re my angel,” I said.
Halo giggled a little: she grinned from ear to ear. It was just so cute, I had to hug her. I wrappe
. I wrapped my arms around her thin, frail body and I held her against me. Her arms pressed against my chest and I pressed my face into her collarbone. I had a feeling of great improvement. I was going to be a better person because of her. I just knew I was.
I had a lot of educating to do, but it would all be for the better. Her existence was for the better. All the calculating, all the work I had gone through was over now and I could begin to enjoy it. I held her tighter and felt tears of joy spilled from my eyes.
“I love you, my daughter, Halo.”

Hey, last night whilst eating a pasta bake, stupidly, I dropped some down my new white Hollister T-Shirt. The T-Shirt is all white, apart from at the top, on the front, where ‘Hollister’ is sewn on, this part is burgundy. Some of the pasta sauce is on the letter i in Hollister and some is just on the plain white part of the T-Shirt.

I have put the T-Shirt in a basin full of hot kettle water and some vanish powder, but it hasn’t done anything, so I put the T-Shirt in the washing machine, and still, it hasn’t come out, I did not dry the T-Shirt, and have put it in another basin full of hot kettle water and vanish powder, but I don’t think the stain is coming out.

I would appreciate any ways of getting the stain out without fading the colours, or making them run please!

If You would like to see what top it is for more clarity on if the colours will run, follow this link:

http://www.hollisterco.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/ProductDisplay?storeId=13007&catalogId=10201&productId=669105&langId=-1&categoryId=16414&parentCategoryId=12551&colorSequence=01

Help is appreciated, I must get this stain out!

Thanks, Jordan
